Crime writer Solveig Karlsdottir is pretty successful - although that's not particularly easy in Iceland. After all, with only two murders a year in the entire country, there aren't many sources of inspiration, but she makes up for this with a lot of imagination and her special feeling for things that aren't quite right. And this feeling kicks in strongly when she travels from Reykjavik to her old home village to look after her mother Margret, who is suffering from dementia. When an old friend from her youth is found dead at the harbor, she doesn't believe the official conclusion that it was an accident.

[PART 1] The rescue team is puzzled when called by an old man who was covered by an earth slide down an Alp, warning there's another victim 'in the mountain' but dying before the helicopter arrives. They and the police only find a non-swimmer who abandoned an small boat in the lake down the slope. Andreas Marthaler and Tobias Herbrechter ignore that Ulli Jäger was thrown down a deep copper shaft by the slide, wounded and desperately seeking a way out. Andreas is shocked when the senior is identified as Alois Maria Kofler, Emilie's father, who left the region years ago when the mine went bust. Emilie and sister Jessika, who left for Salzburg, can only speculate why he returned.

博彻特（Borchert）的教女被怀疑犯有谋杀罪，他试图找出真正的罪犯并使其伏法。

Two years after consorting with the wrong people cost him his job as public prosecutor, Eduardo Silva is a measly defense attorney, who works from his hotel room. Loosing a bit from her fellow-angler uncle, he gives a shot as unpaid apprentice to freshly-graduated gypsy Marcia Amaya, whom nobody would consider hiring so far, but is soon offered crossing to the office of Silva's successor as prosecutor. Their first client is common-as-muck Joana Soares, accused of murdering her beached-up husband after a public fight, without an alibi, claiming a blackout. Eduardo is countered while working out, with help from Marcia's and Joana's families, how the affair actually relates to illegal trade in medicine, with twists including the involvement of a crime lord.
